Hello, my virtual friends and welcome to my blog! My name is Ryan and there are many things that I want to share and discuss with you about communication in a hectic life like the one we all live today. Nowadays, we have taken most of our day to day activities online and that has taken its toll on our socialising and communication skills. Although there are many social medias today where we connect with new and re-connect with old friends and acquaintances, unfortunately, the face to face contact and interaction have dropped. However, we can’t help but appreciate the benefits of being able to reach out to relatives and friends that are abroad and even meet new friends and, why not, a future wife or husband.

As most of you probably know, contact improvisation is a type of communication and exploration through dance that was created back in 1972. This technique has been inspired by a dance performance called Magnesium by Steve Paxton and it is characteristic of the for postmodern dance routines. This technique involves always keeping contact with one or more partners, while moving freely, instead of with controlled movements. If you think about it, it is much like communication, may it be online or in person. We all strive to be free, but we also want to communicate and reach out to others, without having to change our ways or be controlled by others.

Although online communication cannot and should not replace the person to person contact, there are still many ways to reach out to loved ones and even meet new people that you would never have the chance to meet in person. Let me share a little story with you. Last year I met this really cute girl in a Facebook group about music that we were both a part of. I used to like and share all of her posts, because we had more or less the same preferences and sometimes I felt like she could read my mind with the songs she posted and the comments she made. We started talking and I never expected to meet in person since she lived really far away. But what do you know, only recently she wrote to me that she would have to move to the UK for one year to work. So I am really looking forward to meeting her and hopefully see where that will take us. So, as you can see, humans will be humans and the ever-growing need for communication and reaching out to other people is still there and perhaps stronger than ever.
